Meetings Programme 2012 January - June

JANUARY

9th, Workshop 1: Weaving The Words, run by Jill Fricker.

To blow away the cobwebs, and get your creative juices flowing again in preparation for another year of fine writing ... a workshop where you will need to come armed with two sentences, one from each of two books that you really like ... to be shared around ... and turned into something quite different. Like alchemy in reverse, perhaps! .

23rd, Competition 1 Entries: Poetry.

Your own choice: an open theme poem of up to 40 lines.

FEBRUARY

6th, Manuscript Evening 1.

Reading of the winning Catherine Cookson Cup entry.Work in progress from three members. Please book your place!

20th, Comp 1 Results: Poetry.

Judge: Kim Lasky. Kim is an award winning poet who teaches creative writing at Sussex University and in various community settings. Her poems have appeared in the UK and the US.

MARCH

5th, Workshop 2: Dialogue is only talking isn't it? Run by Janet Kates.

A look at how dialogue can be used in writing, demonstrated with some fun exercises.

19th, Comp 2 Entries: Historical short story 2000 words maximum.

Write a short story set in the period of your choice.

APRIL

2nd, Manuscript Evening 2.

16th, Competition 2 Results: Historical short story.

Judge: Kay Green. A small press editor and English teacher, Kay is fascinated by, and involved with, many aspects of the craft and business of writing.

30th, Workshop 3: Writers and Writing Run by Roz Balp.

Do you know your Romantics from your New Romantics? Your villains from your villanelles? Alliteration from onomatopoeia? Of course you do, so come along for a fun quiz - with prizes!

MAY

14th, Comp 3 Entries: Travel article 1500 words maximum.

Write an article about a favourite travel experience, describing the attractions of your chosen location.

28th, Manuscript Evening 3.

Judge: Jeff Jewson-Fleming. A member of Eastbourne New Writers, Jeff is widely travelled and holds a degree in Creative Writing.
